Apex Legends does hardware-ban PCs, but Respawn saves that penalty for its worst cheaters. On July 13, 2026, the Apex anti-cheat team reported close to 6,000 hardware bans since late April, with PC players taking most of them and console players the rest, and said the bans stop repeat offenders from returning on fresh accounts. Most other rule breakers get a suspension or lose the EA account, while the machine stays usable.
The anti-cheat behind those bans changed on September 29, 2026, when Apex on PC left Easy Anti-Cheat for EA Javelin Anticheat. Most answers you'll find online still describe the old setup. Respawn and EA have published enough to settle the questions that matter: which ban you have, how long it lasts, and what each fix can and can't undo.
Does Apex Legends HWID Ban?
Yes. Apex Legends issues hardware ID (HWID) bans, and Respawn confirmed them in writing in its anti-cheat update of July 13, 2026. The team called hardware bans "one of many tools" it uses, aimed at systems built to evade enforcement, and said its tools identify repeat offenders so they can't get back into Apex Legends on new accounts.
The same post answered the question players keep asking: why not hardware-ban every cheater? Respawn described the hardware ban as its most severe penalty, kept as a proportional response to high-severity cheating. The team said it would rather reform players than remove them for good, so the hardware ban goes to what it called malicious bad actors and serial cheaters.
That update added two details. Hardware bans are already counted inside the ban totals Respawn posts, and the team said it plans to use them more often, especially on consoles.
Account Ban vs Hardware Ban in Apex Legends
An Apex Legends account ban and an Apex Legends hardware ban block different things. EA's help center says a ban cuts off a game, a feature inside it, or the entire EA Account, for a long stretch or for good. EA also lists three places a penalty can sit: the EA Account, a single game, or the device itself. That last one is the hardware ban.
| Question | Account ban | Hardware ban |
|---|---|---|
| What is blocked? | Your EA Account | The PC itself |
| Fresh account on that PC? | Can play | Gets blocked too |
| Who gets one? | Most rule breakers | Severe and repeat cases |
| Listed in Penalty History? | Yes | EA hasn't said |

The split is the same one you see in hardware bans at other publishers: the account ban punishes the player profile, while the device ban keeps that player's machine out of the game no matter which login is used.
Who Gets an Apex Hardware Ban
Respawn hands out Apex hardware bans to a narrow group: players whose cheating is severe, players who keep coming back after earlier bans, and setups designed to dodge enforcement. A first-time offender usually loses the account, not the PC. Respawn's own numbers show the scale. Nearly 6,000 hardware bans in roughly two and a half months is small next to the thousands of Apex account bans the team reports in a single week.
Respawn's posts point to the kinds of cheating that draw the heaviest response:
- PC cheat programs such as aimbots and wallhacks, which EA lists as cheating in its Rules of Conduct.
- DMA cheats, which use extra hardware to read game memory. The September 2, 2026 update counted 290 DMA-related bans in one week.
- Input devices such as Cronus, XIM, Titan and Strike Pack. EA's March 4, 2026 update said accounts confirmed using them get permanent bans with no leniency on appeal.
- Repeat offenders who make new accounts after a ban, the exact case Respawn built hardware bans to stop.
Respawn has not said which of these trigger a hardware ban on the first offense. What it has said is that the hardware step goes to the most serious cases, so a single permanent account ban and a hardware ban are not the same outcome.
Apex Anti-Cheat on PC Is Now EA Javelin
Apex Legends on PC has used EA Javelin Anticheat since September 29, 2026. EA announced the move on September 24, thanked Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat team for years of work, and said PC players would be moved over automatically after downloading the game update. EA also said that, unlike some other EA games, Apex does not ask players to turn on Secure Boot for now. Battlefield 6 already ran EA's in-house Javelin anti-cheat, so on PC Apex now sits on the same protection as Battlefield 6.
Respawn's first report after the switch, posted on October 8, 2026, gave the week-one numbers for Apex on Javelin:
- 265,550 cheating attempts prevented
- 12,969 accounts banned
- 40 cheat programs tracked, 91% of them disrupted
- 4,058 Aimzenix, 1,201 Cronus, 199 XIM and 141 Titan bans

The prevention figure matters for anyone checking whether they're banned. Respawn wrote that a prevented attempt does not always lead to a ban, by design. Javelin can stop unauthorized software from working without anyone being banned. An anti-cheat error at launch is a different thing from an entry in your penalty record.
One source still lags behind. The Apex Legends store page on Steam showed Easy Anti-Cheat as the game's kernel-level anti-cheat when we checked on October 9, 2026, ten days after the switch. It's a small lag, and it explains why so many answers still say EAC. EA's announcement and Respawn's post-launch report are the current record.
Javelin is a PC-only system. For PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, EA points to its own data models and server-side detection, and Respawn says console hardware bans are growing.
How Do You Know If Your PC Is Banned From Apex?
Apex Legends doesn't show a message that says "hardware ban". You find out by checking the EA account first and then seeing whether the block follows the account or the PC. Start with the record EA keeps:
- Open EA's Penalty History tool and sign in to the EA Account you use for Apex Legends.
- Read the active penalties: the type (suspension or ban), the reason and the appeal status.
- Check your inbox and spam folder for mail from [email protected], the address EA uses for penalty notices.
Then look at how the block behaves. These patterns point to the PC rather than the account:
- A brand-new EA account, never used to break a rule, gets banned soon after it plays Apex on the same computer.
- Your own EA account plays normally on a friend's PC but not on yours.
- The block survives a reinstall of the game and of Windows, because a Windows reinstall leaves the serials a PC's firmware and drives report exactly as they were.
If Penalty History is empty and only one PC fails, read the error first. A Javelin error at launch, which can come from software or a driver the anti-cheat refuses to run beside, is not a ban. If Penalty History shows nothing and you can't sign in at all, EA's help page says the issue may be a lock or a hacked account rather than a penalty.
How Long Does an Apex Hardware Ban Last?
Apex Legends hardware bans have no published end date. Respawn has never stated a length for them, and EA's help center describes a ban as lasting "for an extended period of time or permanently". Because Respawn keeps hardware bans for high-severity cheating and repeat offenders, the safe reading is that an Apex hardware ban lasts indefinitely unless EA removes it.
Suspensions work differently. EA says suspensions expire after a set period, and in September 2026 Respawn gave 258 console Predator players 60-day suspensions for account sharing. A suspension has an end date; a ban on the device does not.
Many AI answers call every Apex ban "permanent" and quote EA's March 4, 2026 update. That update is about accounts caught using input devices. It describes permanent account bans with no appeal for leniency, not hardware bans.
What Clears an Apex Legends Hardware Ban
An Apex Legends hardware ban comes off only two ways: EA reverses the penalty, or the hardware IDs the ban is tied to stop matching. Everything else people try leaves the IDs in place.
The Appeal Route Comes First
If you think the ban is a mistake, appeal it. Select the violation in Penalty History, choose Appeal and follow the steps. EA's moderation team can uphold the penalty, shorten it or remove it, and replies from [email protected]. An EA community manager wrote in 2026 that every appeal gets a manual review, and that once Penalty History stops offering another appeal, the decision is final. The full route for appealing an Apex Legends ban, including what to write, has its own page. Console players banned by Sony or Microsoft rather than EA have to contact PlayStation or Xbox support.
What Doesn't Clear It
- A new EA account: blocking new accounts on the same PC is the whole point of the Respawn hardware ban.
- Reinstalling Apex or Windows: the disk, board and firmware serials stay the same.
- A new IP address or VPN: the ban sits on hardware IDs, and switching networks leaves every one of them unchanged.
- Changing only the network adapter's address: game bans built on a MAC address are one input among several, so a new MAC alone rarely helps.
Respawn has not published which hardware identifiers Apex records. Anti-cheats in general read IDs such as drive serials, motherboard and SMBIOS data, network adapter addresses and TPM keys. Swapping one cheap part is a guess, because nobody outside EA knows which IDs Apex weighs.

Where an HWID Spoofer Fits
An HWID spoofer changes the identifiers Windows reports, so a hardware ban tied to the old IDs no longer matches the PC. Saturn's Apex Legends HWID spoofer runs under its EA Javelin license and spoofs disk and RAM serials, the motherboard's SMBIOS data, CPU and TPM identifiers, the GPU, the monitor's EDID, network MAC addresses, USB devices and UEFI firmware variables. You can run it in temporary mode or as a permanent spoof. In temporary mode the ban is lifted for as long as Saturn is running, and you can keep unlimited profiles. Permanent mode rewrites the IDs once, using one profile. A spoofer does nothing for the banned EA account, which stays banned, and it doesn't make cheating safe. Saturn can be tested on Apex for 24 hours first: signing up takes an email, and nobody asks for a card.
Apex Legends HWID Ban FAQ
Are Apex HWID bans permanent?
Respawn has not given Apex hardware bans an expiry date, and EA says bans can be permanent. Treat one as indefinite. The penalty can still be overturned through a successful appeal in Penalty History.
Can you get an Apex hardware ban on PS5 or Xbox?
Yes. Respawn's July 13, 2026 update said most hardware bans so far hit PC players, and that it is increasing their use on consoles. A Windows HWID spoofer has no role on a console.
Can a used PC carry someone else's Apex ban?
It can, because the ban follows the hardware, not the owner. If a secondhand PC gets blocked on a clean EA account, appeal through Penalty History and explain that you bought the machine, with the receipt as proof.
Does reinstalling Windows remove an Apex hardware ban?
No. A Windows reinstall resets software, not the serial numbers stored in the drives, motherboard and firmware, which are what a hardware ban matches.
Does a new EA account work after an Apex HWID ban?
Not on the banned PC. Respawn says its tools spot repeat offenders on new accounts, which is how many players first learn the ban is on the machine.
Do Cronus and XIM bans hit the hardware too?
EA's March 4, 2026 update promised permanent account bans for confirmed Cronus, XIM and Strike Pack users and no leniency on appeal. It did not say those bans extend to the PC or console, so that part is unconfirmed.
